Rx and Food Insecurity in New York
Western N.Y. - When Sean Grakees of Western New York was in need, there was only one food bank in his area with a long waiting list. With limited options of securing food and skyrocketing medical costs, Grakees was struggling to access local resources.
Thanks to The Helpers and other supporters, Grakees has secured essential goods during a time of food insecurity and medical hardship.
The Helpers was able to reach Grakees through the Direct Giving program.
The Helpers’ Direct Giving program seeks out individuals in the U.S. struggling with specific basic needs. After a verification process, The Helpers’ sends individuals the goods they need directly.
In Grakees’ case, The Helpers directly sent him 10 cans of mixed vegetables, 12 boxes of pasta, 12 cans of tuna, six cans of tomato sauce, and two boxes of cereal to alleviate Grakees’ food insecure situation.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 10.2 percent of households in the U.S. face food insecurity. A household is food insecure when there are a limited or uncertain amount of nutritious and safe foods available.
With the help of supporters, The Helpers are connecting with individuals in food insecure situations across the U.S.
