Food Insecurity in Indiana
Kathleen and her husband became food insecure after receiving a hefty new bill that ate away at their savings. Kathleen's husband recently lost his job, and despite her efforts to support them by working overtime, they were left with little to spend on groceries.
Despite efforts to fund local food assistance programs, 11% of the Indiana population faces food insecurity. In fact, Feeding America estimates that an additional $330 million is needed to ensure food security for all in Indiana.
With the support of The Helpers, Kathleen's family received additional resources through The Helpers' Direct Giving Program. The Helpers provided Kathleen with three boxes of crackers, eight cans of soup, 10 packs of mashed potatoes, and 12 cups of fruit.
The Direct Giving Program reaches individuals in the U.S. who are unable to obtain specific basic needs. After a verification process, The Helpers sends individuals' the goods they need, and connects them with other services as needed.
With the help of supporters, The Helpers are connecting with individuals in food insecure situations across the U.S.
The Helpers is a full-circle nonprofit organization providing solutions and resources from crisis to completion. Starting with crisis relief for immediate acute needs, The Helpers transitions to community development and organization to implant long-term solutions to ensure communities in the U.S. never return to crises.
